On 21 December 2021, Auditor General Maksim Acevski presented the Annual Report on performed audits and operation of the State Audit Office for 2020 before the Members of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.
The Annual Report, as pointed out by Auditor General, contains objective data and information of 82 audit reports issued in 2020 on the work of all audited entities. In addition to the identified shortcomings, the audit reports point to systemic weaknesses in certain areas thus contributing to strengthening of the legal system.
Concerning SAO performance indicators, the audits in 2020 have increased the scope of audited expenditure of total budget funds and the implementation of audit recommendations has significantly improved. This indicates that SAO contribution to strengthening institutions in our society is increasing.
Auditor General emphasized that in the coming period the State Audit Office will continue its efforts to ensure constitutional and full financial and operational independence as well as maintaining trust and recognition of SAO work and protecting taxpayers’ funds.
At the 54th session, the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia reviewed and adopted the Annual Report on performed audits and operation of the State Audit Office for 2020. The Conclusions on the Annual Report together with the Report of the Committee on Finance and Budget are submitted to the Government, the Ministry of Finance and the State Audit Office.
